The Fanwood Police Department is mourning the loss of Retired Captain George E. Germinder who passed away on July 7, 2020.
Capt. Germinder served in the Korean War from 1950 to 1951, US Army 25th infantry Division. He received three bronze stars and the NJ Distinguished Service Medal for Service. Capt. Germinder served the Borough of Fanwood for 38 years (1955 to 1993) Capt. Germinder was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 1969, to the rank of Lieutenant in 1970 and rank of Captain in 1975. He served as patrol commander from 1975 until his retirement in 1993. Capt. Germinder was a graduate of the North Western School of Police Management and many other police training schools. Capt. Germinder received numerous commendations, one involving the capture of an armed fugitive that was burglarizing a home in Fanwood.
Capt. Germinder was active member of Fanwood Volunteer Fire Dept., Fanwood Rescue Squad, and Fanwood Lions Club.
Capt. Germinder always displayed a sense of dedication and loyalty to the Borough of Fanwood and the Fanwood Police Department. He will be forever missed.
