SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ --  "Cops & Kids" after school program proved popular with students at Park Middle School on Tuesday, April 4.

Officers from both the Fanwood and Scotch Plains police departments, along with several members of the Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School wrestling team, joined 5th through 8th graders for activities including "Hula Hut Dodgeball," and a modified version of volleyball from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.

"We've got about 40 kids here today, and they're all having fun. If the program continues to be popular, we can work with the Board of Ed to expand it," said Fanwood Chief Richard Trigo.

The police officers worked with physical education teacher Jesse Martinez to set Tuesday's itinerary.

"Our officers love doing anything that involves the kids," said Scotch Plains Chief Ted Conley. "It's good for the kids to see us interacting with the community."
